At fault refers to the assignation of guilt in a car accident. Insurance companies are required to determine which party is at fault, or is responsible for the accident. Insurance companies use Fault Determination Rules to ascertain liability. Aside from determining guilt, this also allows insurance companies to determine coverage and compensation quickly and efficiently.
